PlayStation 3 eventually hacked

Three years, two months, and eleven days. That’s how long it has taken for someone to finally hack the PlayStation 3 gaming console. George Hotz, the mastermind behind the Blackra1n, Purplera1n, and the Blacksn0w iPhone/iPod Touch jailbreaking exploits has managed to do this himself, and posted his findings on Friday on a Blogspot blog.

Hotz claims the hack took the better part of 5 weeks to complete, citing the device is equipped with “very simple hardware cleverly applied, and some not so simple software.”

“I have read/write access to the entire system memory, and HV level access to the processor,” Hotz bolding stated, noting that a mod chip is not necessary for the hack.

Unfortunately for the PlayStation 3 community, Hotz isn’t releasing his exploit quite yet. But if it’s any consolation, Hotz notes that the exploit is not “really patchable” by Sony, but “they can make implementations much harder.”
